BOTANICAL NAME Cucumis Sativa

Cucumber has been known for its cooling and refreshing effects. Relatively high in mineral contents, Cucumber is a valuable source of potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulphur, sillicon, chlorine, and florine.

The Cucumber has been long known in England, where it was common in the time of Edward III (1327), then fell into disuse and was forgotten till the reign of Henry VIII, but not generally cultivated here till the middle of the seventeenth century. It is too well known to need description.

SHELF LIFE: Cucumber oil is slow to go rancid; users can expect a shelf life of 6 Months to 1 Year with proper storage conditions (cool, out of direct sunlight). Refrigeration after opening is recommended.

USES:Cucumber oil is used in various cosmetic applications for its cooling, nutritive, and soothing properties, and plays a function in skin care, hair care and nail creams

Carrier oils also referred to as base oils or vegetable oils are used to dilute essential oils, CO2s and absolutes before applying them to the skin in say, a massage. They “carry” the essential oil onto the skin and dilute the essential oil safely. Different carrier oils offer different properties and the choice of carrier oil can depend on the therapeutic benefit being sought. Some are particularly moisturising, some have a high vitamin content.

Carrier oils as part of our aromatherapy supplies range are generally cold-pressed vegetable oils derived from the fatty portions of the plant. Unlike essential oils that evaporate and have a concentrated aroma, carrier oils do not evaporate or impart their aroma as strongly as essential oils. They can, however, go rancid. Our carrier oils are natural and unadulterated. Exceptions include buying carrier oils that have natural vitamin E added. Vitamin E acts as a natural preservative. I do not stock any carrier oils that have vitamin E added as a preservative.

Infused or Macerated oils are where particular plant material has been infused for a period of time in a carrier oil in order for the carrier to extract the plants volatile chemical compounds. Macerating merely speeds the process up by agitating the plant material in the oil. The carrier oil usually employed is Sunflower oil and the majority of infused or macerated oils are in a ratio of 40/60 extracted chemical compounds to the carrier oil. Typical infused oils would be Arnica or Calendula for instance where the plant yields no real oil in itself but imparts its attributes to the carrying oil.
