Important note - please read
The law relating to the sale of many of the items on this site, particularly medicinal herbs changed on the 30th April 2011 under the EU's Herbal Directive. The main changes are that certain items which were exempt will no longer be able to be sold from that point onwards and increasingly, during 2011 and onwards, uses described now may not be shown if deemed to be making a medicinal claim. This means that wording like "traditionally used" or "historically known to be" may start to disappear in the text descriptions of the products on this site. It also means that the properties of herbs which might properly be listed may not be fully explained as it may be deemed that such explanations given would be endorsing or making a medicinal claim that cannot be supported without clinical trial evidence, much of which, does not exist for herbal or alternative remedies as they may well have been used for centuries and no modern clinical trials may have taken place. I strongly suggest that you do your own research into any herbal product before making a decision to purchase an item and as descriptions on this site deplete due to these legal restrictions. I have already stated elsewhere in this site that it is important you consult a qualified practitioner before taking or using any product listed on this site and ensure you seek appropriate medical professional assistance if in any doubt. The more research you do, the better informed you will be to make a more informed decision.
Herbal Tinctures are now, because of the EU's Herbal Directive of April 2011, considered to be a finished medicinal product and require licensing in order to continue their sale. Licensing takes a minimum of 210 days and costs a considerable amount of money. As a result, tinctures are likely to disappear from small manufacturers although the transitional arrangements put in place by the Herbal Directive allow for existing stocks to continue to be sold for the time being. Similarly herbal mixes designed to treat symptoms are also required to be licensed under the same arrangements and have largely been withdrawn as a result.
OILS
I am NOT an arometharapist - I do not claim to be such - I am a specialist in oils.
A great many claims are made by the un-versed and the uninitiated as well as, sadly, trained individuals who have a quite correct concern about the origin of many oils. It is sadly very true that many of the more rare oils are produced illegally at worst or unethically by many organisations who obtain their material illegally from endangered species.
There are many organisations in the world, however, who ONLY trade ethically and do their utmost to ensure the ethical purchase of their products as well as supporting co-operative organisations to ensure the ethical production of the oils they sell. Luminescents is proud to count itself as such a company.
I really do know my suppliers - I have met them, have frequent dialogue with them and some of us are actually growers too. By all means exercise caution when purchasing your oils but don't believe much of the nonsense that proliferates the internet, written by people who merely enjoy or are too lazy to research the medium about which they tout their ignorance. There are many informative sites and organisations that you can trust and I urge you to do your own research as well as question everything you have an interest in. You will only be the better informed for having done so.
Please be aware that absolutes are some of the most rare and precious oils in the world for which there are very few suppliers left and even fewer manufacturers. They are special orders as is clearly stated upon the page from which they may be purchased. Too few members of the general public have any idea what absolutes are, how thick the substance is, or how rare it is whereas perfumiers are familiar with them so before ordering such a precious and rare material, or any item marked as a special order, please make sure you really want it as no absolute oil or special order will be accepted back after sale or may you return it for a refund.
All products have been tested. All oils have been certified as authentic by Government approved laboratories and are 100 percent genuine. They carry the mark of excellence and many that are found not to meet mine or the Governement approved laboratory's stringent criteria are rejected so that you can be confident that any product you purchase from me uses the highest quality ingredients made from 100% pure essential oils, absolutes and fragrance oils.

Nothing I sell or make myself has been tested on animals and I use only natural ingredients and preservatives where appropriate.
HERBS & SPICES & ETHNIC PRODUCTS
Many are certified organic but those of you who know me, also know that I have very strong (some would say self opinionated) views on the meaning of organic. I am all for knowing that a crop has not been deliberately sprayed with pesticide or the ground in which it is grown has not been intensively farmed with indiscriminate use of fertilisers - many of the items are harvested wild in any case but I cannot, for the life of me, agree that the wind can't possibly have blown some unwanted chemical over the crop or that some form of chemical contamination hasn't, at some point, taken place. I can only say that none of my stock has been irradiated or tampered with in any way and, where appropriate, has been independently tested for Sudan and Para Red contamination. All herbs and spices have been through microbial checks for contamination purposes and nothing which has not received a 100% pass mark is accepted for onward sale.
Medicinal Herbs are generally sold in weights and/or multiples of 100. 300. 500. 1000 grams whilst Culinary Herbs tend to also be sold in the same quantities with the additional 50 gram option where appropriate. This is a guide and there are exceptions.
BEST BEFORE DATES
Firstly a Best Before date is a recommendation only and NOT an Expiry Date
Because I do not sell old or rejected herbs and spices I shorten the best before dates from the manufacturer by 12 months deliberately so that you can rest assured if you receive stock approaching its best before date - it still has a full 12 months beyond the best before date before you should consider not using it. Best Before dates are a guideline only and do not mean that the item should not be used or is in any way anything other than not at its best beyond that date.
Some of the more obscure items for sale, rare and not to be found elsewhere easily, are hand made by villagers in remote parts of the world using traditional methods employed for centuries, and indeed in some cases for millenia, These items are not factory made, of course they are organic, and are not subject to factory based legislation for comestibles within the EU. The EU allows for a small percentage of foreign material to be present in all comestibles simply because it is impossible to guarantee its absence but in the case of ethnically produced rare items, your purchasing of them indicates that you have understood this to be the case and Luminescents accepts no reponsibility for its consequences.
PLEASE NOTE
I do not sell herbal supplements or any other branded goods - I am a raw material supplier so if you are looking for branded supplements, vitamin pills and proprietary goods made by large herbal manufactuiers - you will not find them here.
TEA
Tea is a personal passion of mine and every variation or blend I offer is one that I have tried and found to be special enough for me to recommend. I import my teas from merchants in their country of origin but in some instances will take in stock from reputable UK based tea merchants from whom I have bought for many years.
All Tea is sold in weights or multiples of 100 grams
SEARCH ENGINE
There are two types of search on this site
"Quick Find" searches amongst product names ONLY and is useful in finding particular items like named herbs or oils.
"Advanced Search" allows you to search using more complicated criteria so if you are looking for something that is used with a particular condition then click on advanced search, enter the phrase you are hoping to find a solution for and then click "search body text" - That will return an answer that is more enhanced, having searched throughout all site text.
Both are in the left hand margins of the site - one every page.
The search engine on this site, like all search engines, will only respond to what you input as a search string. It is quite pointless typing in the name of a herb, for instance, if you misspell it. HAWTHORN, for example, is spelt as I have shown it in upper case above and not "Hawthorne" with an "e" on the end. If you type in the latter you will have an aborted search result - so - if you have difficulty spelling something then enter a shorter string such as "HAW" and allow the search engine to do its job.
WHOLESALE
I am a specialist retailer not a wholesaler but should you wish to purchase larger quantities of any items then please feel free to contact me and I will endeavour to quote a good retail price for you but the minimum order value must be for 1 kilo of each item subject to a minimum order of 10 kilos in total.
MSDS & COFA (COA)
This website is not a trade website and the goods on sale are retailed for personal use only. Please do not ask me to provide you with Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) certification or a Certificate of Authenticity (COA)-I am not a wholesale supplier nor a manufacturer. Retailers do not have such certification - Only B2B (trade) enquiries can ask for such certification which MUST be requested at the time of placing any order which is private and is subject to a minimum quantity of 1 kilo of each item being ordered with the minimum order total being 10 kilos in all.
If you are ordering a product from this website in order to manufacture goods for forward sale rather than personal use and where such certification is a requirement of the order then you may e-mail me beforehand to check whether I am able to obtain it for you (only for raw traditional herbal material and excludes gums, resins, culinary herbs, spices, oils, teas and finished products and only in the case of B2B supplies and subject to minimum order requirements as above) or you should abort your order. No certification, if available, will be supplied until an order is placed and paid for. No trade enquiries will be considered for any products other than raw traditional herbal material as specified.
Luminescents wll not be held liable for orders placed or executed and delivered where certification is requested after the placement of the order or despatch or receipt of the goods.
SAMPLES
I am sorry but due to continued abuse, even of paid for samples, we have decided to discontinue this service with regret - It is a shame but 9 out of 10 requests have turned out to be fraudulent.
CATALOGUE
I do not publish a printed catalogue - the cost is prohibitive and I provide far more UP TO DATE detailed information on all my products on my website than similar sites with a smaller range. My website IS my catalogue. Please don't ask me to mail you a copy of something I will probably never have printed. I have far too much respect for our planet and its natural resources to fund any more exploitation of our trees by the needless printing of a catalogue when we live in an ever increasingly paperless and electronic world. To request a printed catalogue, in my opinion, from this company is to fundametally misunderstand the medium being used to request it.
